Proposal:
Odioica : Transhumanism as an Involution
Project approach:
Biological evolution is not a fact that occurs in a linear way, however, the transhumanist theory is proposed as an international cultural and intellectual movement that has as its ultimate goal to transform the human condition through the development and manufacture of widely available technologies that "improve human capabilities ¨, both physically and psychologically or intellectually, which is linked to the paradigm of scientific and technological development that includes the evolution of man in a linear way. So, from science itself and specifically, from the study of genomics questions this scientific paradigm: there is evidence that evolution does not necessarily follow a linear development, that there are random mutations as a result of conditions other than an "improvement" of organisms or adaptation to the environment.
Transhumanism looks to the future by considering evolution in a linear fashion while being optimistic about technology and the normal science paradigm. We also know that environmental conditions and catastrophes such as pathogenic organisms that emerge suddenly are factors about which there is no absolute certainty regarding the future. In this sense, the evolution of man in transhumance faces the unpredictable and random. From this perspective, is it possible then to think that the improvements in man, as transhumane, could be in an involution or regressive evolution as the evidence shows has happened in various species? In that sense, when we talk about improving man, who or why decides what are the undesirable characteristics and genes of man? Who decides who will be technologically and genetically improved and those who are not? And what if future circumstances and chance favor the unimproved?
Hence, it is possible to recreate a fictional world that contemplates landscapes inverse to those thought from a linear vision of evolution, where those who believed themselves to be the "unimproved" are those who have the greatest advantage in landscapes of darkness, of depths in the sea in which the posthuman has had to adapt due to some catastrophic circumstance of the world as we know it, a posthuman adapted to the depths of the sea or to depths and landscapes of "moles".
Odioica is conceived as an artistic project that recreates these landscapes and to reflect on a possible future and the posthumans that inhabit them.
Project Goals: What would that project accomplish.
-create a prototype of a robotic organism with softcircuits programmed through machine learning, 3D printing and "skin" made with biomaterials thought as an extension of the posthuman that is symbiotic with it, in certain circumstances, and in others it detaches and can be autonomous that can “learn” on your own where the whole body cannot access and return with this learning to your “human” part.
-recreate then, a speculative landscape in Virtual reality as an ecosystem in which this organism transits and that represents the imaginary biological system to which Odioica (the transhumance symbiote) would be a part, constituted by a community of living organisms and the physical environment where it is They relate. It is about speculating and recreating a unit made up of interdependent organisms that share the same habitat in the manner of a post-industrial landscape as a first proposal that can be modified through research. Odioica questions her beliefs and ethics through experience and accepting the unpredictable.
To this goals, it is proposed to start with a conceptual investigation and scientific foundation to start the speculation and sketch representation of this symbiotic transhumanist organism. A record of the process will be carried out and uploaded to the internet: sketches and previous experimentation with softcircuits, 3D printing, modeling 3D ,biomaterials, robotics prototypes, machine learning code on gitHub , molecular biology techniques ( use of DNA as a plastic material, mitochondrial DNA tracking data)
